About FADER-ICE
Meet John, the founder of Fader Ice. He likes to party! He hates beer, and likes flavor. So, he started messing around in the kitchen trying to make the most tasty and low calorie specialty cocktail mix he could back in 2003, before flavored alcoholic drinks were mainstream. Back then he referred to it as Faderade but that was then! John started changing ingredients and finally had perfected his 12th flavor about six years later, only to have this dream project come to a screeching halt when he was contacted by the FBI and taken to a high-security prison for four years (for crimes that stemmed from trusting bad legal advice).
Fast-forward to John’s prison release in 2017: he’s taken to a state where he no longer lives, he hasn’t seen his kids in four years and is taken to a halfway house with copious drugs and no resources to get back on his feet. He got the picture loud and clear that our broken system is meant to keep people in these toxic cycles of incarceration and addiction.
But John had tenacity like a bulldog and wasn’t about to lie down and take it. He remembered his drink recipes--and knew, once he had enough money saved up, it was time for FaderIce to be born!
Four years later, you hold this delicious drink in your hands today! John’s struggle to find his footing after prison has launched him into various new endeavors including this passion project. His non-profit organization, called “Rub It On Your Chest” produces merchandise, and more importantly jobs, for people who are released from prison and need a leg up. Koehler Homes, a housing construction company that John runs in Jacksonville, FL. has assisted in helping former inmates get back on their feet and earn an honest living.
Our Mission
Creating opportunities for people who lost everything through the prison system, for making a bad decision along the way. Now there are three different companies for people leaving prison to plug into: Koehler Homes, Fader Ice, and John’s non-profit “Rub It On Your Chest” (RIOYC) all support and help fund that mission.
